BTA chief loses job in reshuffle

The British Tourist Authority’s marketing services director Kevin Johnson has been made redundant following the organisation’s restructure.

The BTA – which is responsible for promoting Britain overseas – and the English Tourist Board have integrated their marketing functions and created two new divisions (MW April 28). One is headed by a director of commercial services and the other by a director of corporate services.

Johnson was offered an overseas role with the BTA but declined it. His role was to provide marketing services for BTA head offices abroad.

The new commercial

division includes brand management, commercial development and research for both the BTA and the ETB. The Corporate Services division covers finance and policy, among other elements.

The BTA/ETB has appointed Gareth James, formerly of its Toronto office, to the new post of head of brand management and brand managers for various UK regions and countries will report to him.

The BTA/ETB is looking for a commercial director to head its new division and work alongside Chris Howard, who joins from accountants KPMG to take on the role of director of corporate services.

The organisation is also looking for a director of development.
